Big names like Adele, Lizzo, Bad Bunny, Taylor Swift, Harry Styles and Beyonce made their way to the Dolby Theater to celebrate the past years’ hit music.
Having a rating boost of about 30 percent, according to Variety, it was music’s biggest night and it did not disappoint. From the opening performance by Bad Bunny to the tribute held for artists lost this past year to a celebration of 50 years of Hip-Hop, the Grammys had something for everyone to enjoy.
Throughout the night, artists won their respected awards and some even sent shock waves through the night. Beyonce had a historic night winning her 32nd Grammy award for Dance/Electronic album. She was also the first black woman in history to win in that category. Another person who made history was Viola Davis, who took home the award for Spoken Word Album for her memoir “Finding Me,” which made Davis an EGOT (Emmy, Grammy, Oscar, Tony) winner. Viewers of the Grammy’s also witnessed history being made when Kim Petras became the first transgender woman to win for best Group/Duo Performance for “Unholy” with nonbinary performer, Sam Smith.
However, the four big awards that were highly anticipated for the night; Album of the Year, Song of the Year, Record of the Year and Best New Artist of the Year, caused much conversation both online and even during some acceptance speeches throughout the night. Lizzo won Record of the Year for her hit 2022 single, “It’s About Damn Time,” Samara Joy won for Best New Artist and Bonnie Raitt won Song of the Year for “Just Like That,” which shocked many, including Raitt.
The biggest surprise of them all was Album of the Year being given to “Harry’s House” by Harry Styles. The category which included nominees like Beyonce, Adele, Lizzo, Coldplay, Bad Bunny, Kendrick Lamar, ABBA, Brandi Carlile and Mary J. Blige, meant the competition would be tough. Many believed the winner would be Beyonce for her album “Renaissance,” but “Harry’s House” proved to be on top.
During the Styles’ acceptance speech, many made it clear he was not favored to win, as yelling ensued for those in favor of Beyonce. Many disgruntled fans even took to Twitter to vent their frustrations with the win for the “As It Was” singer.
Styles walked away with the top award as well as the award for Best Pop Vocal Album, making Styles a three-time winner. Another big winner was Taylor Swift for Best Music Video for “All Too Well: The 10-minute Version” which was a 15-minute short film. Bad Bunny also took home the Grammy for Best Musica Urbana Album for “Un Verano Sin Ti.”
Overall, the Grammy Awards entertained audiences from start to finish and is sure to keep us “Daydreaming” about the next one.
