UTEP’s new Center for Cyber Analysis and Assessment hosted its first community workshop on Aug. 10 at Prospect Hall. The workshop focused on raising awareness on the subject.
UTEP was selected to be a satellite campus to the Army Research Lab South (ARL-South) initiative, which aims to deliver information about programs and cybersecurity-related research. This partnership started in April when the Computer Science department obtained a $500K ARL-South grant for the school to initiate cybersecurity and a laboratory. The center’s main goal is to organize research and give workshops for El Paso and the surrounding communities.
Computer Science professor Salamah Salamah is one of the leaders of the project and the main instructor of the first workshops.
Additionally, the partnership will allow communication between ARL and UTEP and give students the opportunity to intern with them and have an ARL member as a mentor through the internship and the classes.
