UTEP campus was pact with universities from around the world by April 23, as an effect of the Baja SAE weekend long competition.
As a result, Sun Bowl Drive was closed in order to accommodate the off-road competition. The closure took effect on Friday April 25 and will continue until Saturday from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. and Sunday from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m. During this time, parking for the Student Recreation Center will be available in the Las Palmas LifeCare Center parking lot, located at 3333 N. Mesa St. at Mesa and Kern Drive.
Friday events included engine, brake and technical inspections. On Saturday however, public events will take in to effect and include suspension and traction, acceleration, and hill climb challenges from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the UTEP Student Recreation Center. The competition will follow up until Sunday for an endurance race for those teams that make it to the final challenge. The race will begin at 9 a.m. behind the UTEP Student Recreation Center with a designated viewing area available.
It is expected for approximately 1,500 spectators to attend Baja SAE this weekend.
