Editor’s Note: These are not the most recent UTEP softball games.
UTEP softball returned to bat against LA Tech in an intense battle. Although both games ended in a loss, the battle against the Bulldogs spotlighted the Miners’ limitless potential.

GAME ONE: LA Tech edges out UTEP with a score of 7-6
The Miners came ready to bat, starting strong in the early match. Freshman infielder Marissa Burchard helped fire this strong start after an error, later scoring with a wild pitch. Soon after some scoring from LA Tech, the score would be 5-1. Knowing they had to pick up steam, UTEP made a two-run fourth and another soon after. During this stretch, sophomore infielder Madi Mendoza would make a run-batted-in single. Junior utility Bri Garcia would follow in suit, evening the score with a clutch-at bat at 5-5.
LA Tech would retaliate immediately, making a solo home run. However, junior infielder Illiana Munoz would respond in quick fashion with a game-tying home run. This would send the match into overtime, but with a sacrifice fly, LA Tech would cinch out the win.
GAME TWO: The Miners lose steam
In the second game, the Miners would strike in the opening inning with Munoz giving a two-run single. Although UTEP gained an edge, the Bulldogs would snap back with a run and a four-run fourth. Scoring three home runs, LA Tech would continue to bump their ongoing tally up. The Miners would not be able to score again as the Bulldogs would soon run away with the win, 5-2.

Tuesday, March 18, the Miners are set to take on the New Mexico State Aggies at the Helen of Troy Softball Complex.
