Living legend, 39-year-old Lana Del Rey recently became one with 49-year-old swamp tour guide, Jeremy Dufrene. The private wedding took place in Des Allemandes, Louisiana Sept. 26.
Del Rey and Dufrene met back in 2019 while she attended one of his wildlife tours. Elle Magazine insider revealed that the ceremony took place where they first met.
While the news caught new fans by surprise thinking it was a music video shoot for her upcoming album “Lasso,” longtime fans said its “very Lana coded.”
Contrary to popular belief, the news of the marriage is not surprising, as in her music she often depicts and references how passionate and unconventional her love history is.
For reference, in her “Ride” music video, Elizabeth Grant (Lana Del Rey) recites a monologue, sharing how her wild and free spirit allowed her to adapt to the world and what surrounds it.
“I was always an unusual girl. My mother told me that I had a chameleon soul. No moral compass pointing due north. No fixed personality.”
In most of her music videos, Grant is often depicted with older, tougher and unconventionally attractive men, all from different backgrounds and going against the aesthetic most paint her to be. Reflecting on the “Ride” music video, Grant is seen with significantly older traditional, tattooed American men, bikers and is seen in motels, dive bars, riding lowriders and smoking cigarettes. This alludes to the true Americana essence that has carried throughout her career.
Del Rey stated in one of her tracks “Sweet” her desire for having a committed relationship.
“Do you want children? Do you wanna marry me…. I’ve got things to do, like nothing at all I wanna do them with you. Do you wanna do them with me?”
As the news broke out, numerous publications only portray Dufrene as a “swamp gator tour guide,” serving as a comparison of popularity and success between the newlyweds. Although Dufrene and Grant have different but successful careers, there is undeniable chemistry and true love between the pair.
While the public shares their confusion and surprise about the relationship, those close to Dufrene only share positive connotations about him. Ex-fiancée of Dufrene, Kelli Welsh commented on the wedding news.
“I am in shock because we were engaged for 12 years, and he got married after one month,” said Welsh. “He has always been a giver so to have someone give to him, he deserves it. He is a very solid guy.”
Although the news came out of the blue, Del Rey and Dufrene seem to share a connection. A connection that only they understand and that will inspire her songwriting. Congratulations to the happy couple. Like Grant said in her hit song ‘Margaret’, “when you know, you know.”
