With the start of the 2024 fall semester, UTEP pride kicked off with an electrifying night filled with music, fun and appearances by the UTEP cheer and choir during UTEP’s Night at the Chihuahuas game Aug. 30.
UTEP joined forces with the El Paso Chihuahuas where students were given free tickets followed by the gifting of 1,000 commemorative t-shirts for the first 1,000 fans.
The evening opened with the UTEP cheer team hyping the crowd by displaying Miner Spirit, as guests arrived and waited for the game to begin.
Freshman, Luke Mena, is part of the UTEP cheer team and shares his experience.
“My favorite thing about UTEP is the community,” said Mena. “I feel like everybody here is here to help one another and see everybody succeed.”
President Heather Wilson opened the game with the ceremonial first pitch followed by the UTEP choir, with a rendition of the national anthem.”
President Wilson commented on her predictions for the game as she gave advice for everyone starting the 2024 fall semester.
“It’s going to be a great game,” said Wilson. “The community is going to love it, and I’m glad to see many Miners here, just work hard, have fun and cheer loud.
The El Paso Chihuahuas were set to face the Tacoma Rainiers, but the game ended up being postponed following inclement weather that forced the game into Saturday. The Chihuahuas would go on to win that game 7-5.
