The National Association of Hispanic Journalists (NAHJ) has made it their mission to have more Latinos in newsrooms to help diversify the stories told across the world. Every year during their annual convention they celebrate four journalists who will be inducted into the NAHJ Hall of Fame for their hard work in telling unique stories.
Next month in Miami, Fl. NAHJ will honor two journalists who are very familiar with the borderland. UTEP Professor Angela Kocherga and UTEP alumni Alfredo Corchado will be honored for their unique ways of storytelling over the years.
Kocherga is the current news director of KTEP and Borderzine and works as the multimedia editor for El Paso Matters, an independent news organization. According to NAHJ, Kocherga was selected for her outstanding contributions to journalism – including nuanced coverage of migrants, immigration policies, and the U.S.-Mexico border.
Corchado has covered U.S.-Mexico issues for The Dallas Morning News since 1993, he has also reported from Washington and Cuba. Before the Dallas Morning News, Corchado reported at El Paso Herald-Post & The Wall Street Journal in Dallas and Philadelphia. Aside from his work in journalism, Corchado is the author of Midnight in Mexico and Homelands.
These two El Paso journalists will be honored July 15 at the NAHJ’s Hall of Fame Gala.
