After weeks of construction, Cielo Vista Walmart’s memorial for the Aug. 3 El Paso mass shooting victims was unveiled to the community Saturday morning.
Walmart officials and El Paso County Mayor Dee Margo were among the speakers who helped present the structure to the audience, including witnesses who were inside the store the day of the attack that killed 22 people and left more than two dozen injured.
The 30–foot–tall candela is made up of 22 individually perforated aluminum arcs that will emit light into the sky every evening from the store’s parking lot, where it will be visible to anyone passing by.
