Mexican rock band Maná will play at 8 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 11, at UTEP’s Don Haskins Center.
Maná announced their 2019 tour “Rayando el Sol,” which kicks off Aug. 31 at the Sames Auto Arena in Laredo, Texas. The band will then make a run through Texas and continue the tour in Corpus Christi, Houston, Dallas and the city of El Paso.
From Guadalajara, Jalisco, Maná was formed in 1986 and consists of lead vocalist Fher Olvera, Sergio Vallín, Alex González and Juan Calleros.
Following its 33-year career, the band released tour dates for its 2019 tour, which pays homage to its critically acclaimed single “Rayando el Sol” and its first studio album, “Falta Amor,” released in 1989.
“Rayando el Sol” kick-started the band’s career, leading the group to become one of the most successful and recognizable Latin rock bands in the world after winning seven Latin Grammy Awards and 14 Billboard Latin Music Awards.
The Spanish rock band is also known for hit songs like “¿Dónde Jugarán Los Niños?” “Mariposa Traicionera,” “Oye mi Amor” and “Labios Compartidos.” Maná released its ninth and latest studio album, “Cama Incendiada,” in 2015, which includes singles, “La Prisión,” “Ironía” and “Mi Verdad,” featuring Shakira.
“I saw them 3 years ago in September of 2016. I’ve always loved their music and they are great live,” said Maribel Betancourt, a senior Art Education major at UTEP. “The tour was called the Latino Power Tour and the concert was dedicated to the Latin community to get their voices heard and go vote. I’m really looking forward to seeing them play live again.”
The 2019 tour will also make stops in other cities, including Las Vegas, Los Angeles and Miami.
Tickets are available online and at UTEP Ticket Centers.
