UTEP introduces the new GAIA Makerspace, which happens to be open to all students, free of charge. GAIA is a lab where students can use enhanced technology to create different objects. This enhanced technology includes 3D printing, 3D scanning, virtual reality and many more. This makerspace allows students to sharpen their critical skills in art, engineering, math, and technology. Students are able to put their creativity to the test by creating whatever they wish such as masks, toys, and signs.
“Yes, there’s a lot of cool stuff you can do in terms of arts and crafts, but there’s also taking what you learn in the classroom and turning it into real-world application in terms of circuit design, prototyping, and a wide range of things” said Mike Pitcher, the Director of Academic Technologies.
The GAIA Makerspace hours include:
Monday – Thursday 8 a.m. – 10 p.m.
Friday: 8 a.m. – 2 p.m. & 3 p.m. – 6 p.m.
