After a week of drip-dropping announcements via social media, Miners finally know who will be here to kick off the UTEP football season at the annual Minerpalooza celebration.
Fans of two of the most iconic TV shows of this generation will be happy to learn that DJ Pauly D and Drake Bell will be headlining this year’s function.
For those unfamiliar with the artists, expect to revel in heart-throbbing lyricism from Bell and fist-pumping beats from the Jersey Shore guido.
Also joining the festivities are Texas natives Volta and DJ Orange Calderón.
Despite their modest discography, Volta has already established as one of the most important bands in El Paso TX and Ciudad Juarez. They’ve shared the stage with artists such as Julieta Venegas, Belinda, Paty Cantu, Jenny and the Mexicats and many others.
Calderón has opened for artists like Skrillex, Outcast and has played shows across eight different countries. She has a Soundcloud with numerous bangers and was named among the ‘DeLeón 100,’ which is a curated list of music industry trailblazers identified by Sean “Diddy” Combs.
The annual pep-rally celebration originated in 1990 when Gary Edens, vice president for the Division of Student Affairs at UTEP, got the idea when he attended the massive festival Lollapalooza.
This year’s celebration will take place on Sun Bowl and Glory Road on Friday, Aug. 31 and will include food trucks, booths hosted by student organizations, carnival stands, games, and special appearances by student-athletes and coaches.
