On Sunday, July 15, Music Under the Stars presented the Los Angeles, California band “Chicano Batman” to perform their new album “Freedom is Free.”
The event took place at Cohen Stadium and was free admission to the public
Formed in 2008, the band is composed by Bardo Martínez, lead vocalist of the band, guitarist Carlos Arévalo, bass player and vocalist Eduardo Arenas, and percussionist Gabriel Villa.
Hundreds showed up to watch the band play while others were having fun playing games and enjoyed food from various vendors such as hamburgers, hotdogs, and funnel cakes.
“It was perfect the idea of making it free in order for people to come and enjoy a concert as a family,” said Jorge Granados, an attendee at the event.
The band started their performance with “Pomegranate Tree,” a song from their previous album “Joven Navegante.”
“This song just brings good vibes every time I pass through bad stuff,” said Madeline Leyva, a fan of the band.
Chicano Batman continued to cheer their audience with songs like, “Lisandreando,” “Fantasia,” “Run” and “It’s a Balloon”.
“I have to be honest with y’all. It doesn’t even feel like the United States. This feels like another country because I see beautiful brown faces,” said Martínez to his audience.
With the crowd cheering, the band performed their new songs “Friendship,” “Pass you by,” “La Jura” and “Freedom is Free.”
“La Jura is my song because I feel identified with my what is happening to my life right now and it’s amazing it for someone to feel the same way as I do,” said Brian Ramirez, attendee, and fan of the band.
Music Under the Stars will offer one last concert at Cohen Stadium on July 22 with Queen Nation, a tribute to the music of Queen, closing out the summer event.
