Alejandra Guzman and Gloria Trevi returned to El Paso on their “Versus” Tour. The Mexican superstars recently came to El Paso County Coliseum back in September. This time, they took over the Don Haskins Center for one of the last stops on their tour.
Dozens of people waited to enter the Don Haskins Center Wednesday night to witness Mexican rock and pop icons in concert.
Fans screamed and cheered when the duo appeared together on stage, opening with the song “Mas Buena,” causing them to head to their seats, filling the Don Haskins Center.
Guzman came out in white skintight long sleeve bodysuit with a transparent zig zag print covered in sequence. Trevi also came in a skintight long sleeve bodysuit, but with multicolored prints, gems and long blue and hot pink feather boas hanging on her sleeves.
The two took turns performing two 45 minute sets each. Guzman went first singing “Mirala, Miralo.” She spun around and stuck her tongue out as she sang “Tendria que gritar / pero me muerdo la lengua.”
Before Gloria Trevi came out, the beginning of her hit song “Gloria” began to play causing fans to go wild. Throughout the night, it seemed that concertgoers were bigger fans of Trevi. While a lot of people were sitting throughout the concert, more people would get up to dance and singing the lyrics while Trevi was performing.
The second half of the show “The Queen of Rock” and “The Supreme Diva of Pop” took the crowd back in time to the 1990s as they performed songs like “Reina de Corazones,” and “Pelo Suelto.” The third part of the show was the battle of the ballads. Trevi and Guzman came out in long sparking gowns and sang a medley of ballads from the past.
If you took the “Versus” title literally, I think Trevi may have won. Trevi’s performance was entertaining. She would interact more with the audience jumping off stage and bringing up people to dance. At one point she even went over the railing to kiss someone in the audience. However, Guzman’s voice was much better. She was able to bolt out the lyrics better throughout the night. While she did interact and make jokes with the crowd, Trevi’s charisma won the crowd over.
While it was rumored that Guzman and Trevi were rivals, there was absolutely no bad blood between them.
Guzman and Trevi sang “Yo Te Esperaba” hand in hand dedicating the song to mothers. Once the song finished both women spoke about the importance of unity causing them to tear up.
After one more outfit change, the two ended the concert with “Cuando Un Hombre Se Enamora,” and confetti blasted out into the crowd.
Their tour will wrap in Los Angeles on April 14 at the Hollywood Bowl.
