Saturday afternoon at ACL mostly consisted of people filling up the beer hall to watch the UT vs Oklahoma game.
Saturday was a slower day, far less exciting than Friday. People were devastated by the UT loss and the two closing act finished their sets earlier than scheduled.
But the day went on and some of the earlier acts were memorable enough to salvage the day.
The BMI stage was a safe haven from the heat. Many gathered in to be in the shade and catch some AC but were pleasantly surprised by the acts on stage.
Later in the day, Spoon proved that you didn’t need to be insanely popular to draw a crowd and keep them captivated. Their stage presence and delivery kept the crowd hooked and dancing along even when they didn’t know the words to the songs.
Tove Lo embraced her sexuality and flashed the crowd during her set. The crowd seemed to be in an uproar for her song “Moments” as well as “Talking Bodies.”
Chance the Rapper was a must see. He kept people jumping through every one of his songs, including his Kanye West covers.
The RHCP only performed a few of their hits leaving the crowd a little disappointed as they couldn’t follow along to their lesser-known songs. The set was carried by Flea’s tremendous bass play as well as Chad Smith’s intense drumming. They opened and closed the show with drum and bass solos.
One of the highlights of the performance was Josh Klinghoffer’s encore solo cover of Tom Petty’s “A Face in the Crowd.”
Some of the Day two acts will include Vance Joy, DRAM, Run the Jewels, BROODS, The Growlers, Furst Aid Kit and Gorrilaz.
Gates open tomorrow at 11 a.m. for Day 3. First person in line to make it to the American Express stage will receive a 1st in line ribbon for
The Killers that puts them at the front of the line.
