Conference USA has voted UTEP’s Alyssa Palacios as goalkeeper of the week for women’s soccer, the league office revealed Monday, Sept. 18. It is the third such honor of her career.
Palacios recorded six saves in the Miners 1-0 win at Southern Miss this past Sunday.
The junior is currently ranked fourth in NCAA rankings for minutes played and has a total of 60 saves (6.0 saves per game) in just 10 games this season. Her big moment during Sunday’s win was a stop in a one-on-one situation, keeping the Golden Eagles scoreless.
“Alyssa was the MVP of the game on Sunday,” UTEP head coach Kevin Cross said in a press release. “She made three big time saves that kept us in that game. We would not have won that game without her outstanding performance. This honor is much deserved and she is a huge reason for a shut-out against a very high powered Southern Miss attack.”
Her efforts helped the Miners claim their league lid lifter and fifth straight game overall.
The Miners return to action this Friday, Sept. 22 at home against UAB.
