Franchy Cordero had his bats going as he chipped in with three hits and two RBIs and the Chihuahuas beat the Las Vegas 51s 10-7 on Monday.
Leading the way for the pitchers, Dillion Overton pitched five innings for El Paso and allowed five runs off five hits. Although the pitchers struggled at the beginning, the batters made up for it. El Paso scored two or more runs in each of the first four innings.
Cody Decker, former Chihuahuas’ team member and a crowd favorite, returned to the Sun City for Las Vegas and finished the series with a strong game. He went 3-for-5 including a two-run double, which tied the game in the third inning for Las Vegas.
After the Las Vegas comeback, Overton helped the Chihuahuas respond with a two-run double of his own. Then, Ryan Schimpf hit a two-run home run in the fourth and also had a RBI single in the sixth inning.
Closer Kevin Quackenbush was credited with the save for the Chihuahuas, his first of the season.
Next up, the Chihuahuas will host a four-game series against second place Albuquerque starting on Tuesday. The first pitch is slated for 7:05 p.m. at Southwest University Park.
