The season for the Miners hockey club is not over yet. Today the UTEP Miners (30-3) heard the news that they drew the No. 7 seed of the American Collegiate Hockey Association (ACHA) Western Regional Tournament. The tournament will be played in Greenly, Colorado.
UTEP will face No. 6 Denver on Friday, Feb. 24, at 9 a.m. MT in the quarterfinals.
With a win over Denver, the Miners will play the following day in the semifinals on Saturday, Feb. 25 at either 10 a.m. or 12:30 p.m. Who the Miners could potentially face all depends on which seeds advance. The early semifinal matchup on Saturday will pit the second lowest seed versus the second highest seed to advance. The later semifinal matchup will feature the lowest seed versus the highest seed to advance.
The Miners are coming off their first ever Texas Collegiate Hockey Conference championship with a 6-0 victory over Dallas Baptist this past Saturday. The win lifted UTEP to No. 7 in the West Region of the ACHA, thus earning them the seven seed.
Team leaders for the Miners include Jeramy Rezaeepour (43 goals, 37 assisits) and Lukas Znosko (43 goals, 34 assists). Goalie Aleksander Lazarski currently owns a .911 save percentage with 796 saves on the season.
