Cyber Café celebrates grand opening in Union East

January 24, 2017

The new Cyber Café in the Union East building had its grand opening Tuesday, Janurary 24. They celebrated opening their doors to students with free coffee and sweets and a chance to win a monitor among other prices.

The Cyber Café has 60 new computers. 36 are Dells with Windows installed and 24 are Macintosh computers with access to the Adobe Creative Cloud, which has programs such as Photoshop, Illustrator and Premier Pro.

“This facility is an extension of the services that we provide over at the library. We have a lot of people using this building so we expanded just to keep up with student demand,” said supervisor Alex Fierro.

For someone that lives in the dorms, sophomore psychology major, Aubrey Oliver, says that the location of the café is more convenient than the library.

“Whenever I have to check out equipment or do anything on the computers, I have to go the library and it’s like a 20-minute walk and it’s cold sometimes. I think it’s really awesome that they have the cyber café in the union because we have easy access and we can check out equipment which is really cool,” Oliver said.

Mechanical engineer major, Raquel Herrera, said she began using the facility last week before the official launch.

“(The Union) is a meeting place so having computers and printers available here is nice,” Herrera said.

The Cyber Café’s hours of operation will be Sunday through Friday from 7:00 a.m. to 10:00 p.m.
