After his noteworthy performance at the Commmodore Invitational, freshman Emmanuel Korir was named Conference USA Track Athlete of the Week by the league.
Korir debuted for the first time in an orange and white uniform with a 1:46:50 time and took the gold in the the 800m race. The time was enough to give the Kenya native the program record, which was previously held by Elias Koech in 2008. Currently, his time is the fastest in the nation and first in C-USA for the event.
He and the Miners will participate in the Cherry & Silver Invitational in Albuquerque, N.M, on Saturday, Jan. 21.
