After his noteworthy performance in the Gildan Charleston Classic throughout the weekend, senior guard Dominic Artis received the Conference USA Player of the Week award on Monday, Nov. 21.
During the three games over the weekend, Artis averaged 19.7 points, 6.3 boards, 6.0 assists and 1.3 steals. He led the Miners to a 1-2 stand in the tournament as the squad squared off against Wake Forest (81-103), Western Michigan (85-75) and Mississippi State (61-54).
His outstanding 24-point performance against Wake Forest was among the most noteworthy of the weekend. He shot 8-of-12 from the field and hit 3-of-5 3-pointers. Against Western Michigan, Artis flirted with a triple-double, scoring 20 points, 10 rebounds and nine assists. Against Mississippi State, he notched 15 points for the Miners in their close game against the Bulldogs.
He leads the team in nearly every major category as he is the top in scoring (16.8 per game), rebounding (7.0 per game) assists (7.8 per game) and steals (2.0 per game). Currently, Artis is ninth in the nation for assists per game.
Artis and the bunch will take on Southeastern Louisiana on Wednesday, Nov. 23, at 7 p.m. in the Don Haskins Center.
