Among some of the top players around the country, junior standout running back Aaron Jones was selected as one of 10 semifinalists for the Doak Walker Award. He was named by the PWC SMU Athletic Forum on Wednesday, Nov. 16, and he is the only C-USA player to be selected.
Jones is ranked No. 4 in the nation for rushing yards with 1,397 yards this season and is UTEP’s all-time leading rusher with 3,738 in his three years playing for the Miners.
Jones sits with nine other semifinalist tailbacks with Saquon Barkley (Penn State), Dalvin Cook (Florida State), D’Onta Foreman (Texas), Leonard Fournette (LSU), Brian Hill (Wyoming), Christian McCaffrey (Stanford), Jeremy McNichols (Boise State), Kamryn Pettway (Auburn) and Donnel Pumphrey (San Diego State).
The selection committee will decide three finalists on Tuesday, Nov. 22, which will then vote on the winner. The award will be announced on The Home Depot College Football Awards on Thursday, Dec. 8 on ESPN.
