Entering her senior soccer season with the Miners, defender/midfielder Aleah Davis was named Conference USA Preseason Co-Defensive Player of the Year on Tuesday, Aug. 2. Davis joined Florida Atlantic’s defender Erica Burt and Rice’s Jasmine Isokpunwu. Martha Thomas of Charlotte was named as the C-USA Offensive Player of the Year.
Davis has started for the team all three years and has reeled in awards throughout her collegiate career. She was named to the all All-Region player’s list every season, and was also named All C-USA each year as well. In contrast to receiving her defense award, last season, Davis contributed with five goals and seven assists for a total of 18 points for the Miners. This simply shows the diverse dynamic she brings to the squad.
“We are real proud of Aleah for representing UTEP on the preseason list,” head coach Kevin Cross said in a press release. “It is great recognition and we look forward to Aleah leading us on the field this year.”
After Davis and the Miners take on training camp Wednesday, Aug. 3, the squad will open their season and take on New Mexico State on Aug. 19 at home.
