Entering his senior year at fullback, Darrin Laufasa was recognized to the 2016 Polynesian College Football Player of the Year Award Watch List on Wednesday, July 27. He is the only player out of Conference USA to receive the nomination. The award is presented each year to the best Polynesian college football player of the season.
Throughout his career, Laufasa has been a powerful big man on offense. Laufasa started his entire three-seasons at UTEP and rushed for 183 yards on 33 attempts with a touchdown last year. After starting running back Aaron Jones was sidelined, Laufasa took a majority of the carries for the team. He also is a detrimental factor in Jones’ rush game due to his strong run blocking.
Laufasa and the Miners will head to Ruidoso, NM, for their annual training camp starting Aug. 3 in preparation for their season opener against New Mexico State (Sept. 3).
