UTEP keeps conference streak alive with win over UAB
January 11, 2016
UTEP women’s basketball continues their perfect streak in conference play as they defeated UAB 64-52 on Sunday. UTEP is now 13-1 overall this season and 4-0 in conference play.
This game was a test for the home team as UAB led for 28 minutes of the game; however, their biggest lead was only six points.
UTEP was able to close the gap and take over the game in the fourth quarter when the defense switched to full court press, thus creating nine total turnovers.
“I think this is a more experienced group,” head coach Keitha Adams commented about her team. “They are a group that remembers going 12-16 last year. I remind them [about that] every day.”
Senior Camaesha Turner posted 13 points and 11 boards, and was just one steal shy from a triple double.
“I think she is just a motivated player,” Adams said. “She has shown her maturity as she has grown with the program. The thing I am most proud of is how she did not react when they called a blocking foul on her. A couple years ago she would of have gotten a technical [for the call].”
The Miners will host UTSA on Sunday, Jan. 17, at 1:05 pm. This will conclude the team’s three-game homestead.
