UTEP has won the No. 8 spot in Washington Monthly Magazine’s 2014 National University Rankings report. The university once again ranked No. 1 in social mobility, but dropped in rank from the 2013 report, which placed UTEP at No. 7.
This marks the third year the university claims the No. 1 spot for social mobility. Washington Monthly defines social mobility on an institution’s ability to recruit and graduate low-income students.
Figures reveal that the number of students receiving Pell grants at UTEP decreased from 67 percent in 2013 to 59 percent in 2014, while the net price, the difference between the full cost of attending UTEP minus grants and scholarships a student might be eligible for, increased from $2,543 in 2013 to $3,258 in 2014.
Amount spent in research expenditures remained at constant $74 million from 2013 to 2014.
On Tuesday, Aug. 26, President Diana Natalicio will make a major announcement at 11 a.m. at the Union Plaza concerning UTEP’s top ten position in the national ranking by Washington Monthly.
