The last day of the 11th International Sun Conference on Teaching and Learning from is approaching.
The event focuses on “Celebrating Teaching and Learning” and will include two guests speakers as well as award winning UTEP faculty.
On Thursday, the event will showcase UTEP faculty who have applied innovative methods to their teaching curriculum.
The three day event, which began March 5, has taken place in the Tomas Riviera Conference Center on the third floor of the Union Building East.
Gina Nuñez-Mchiri, anthropology professor, Bill Roberston, vice president of Academic Affairs, Steve Varela, associated director of Academic Technologies, and Ron Wagler assistant professor of teacher education, are among the faculty that will be attending.
The faculty will share the creative techniques they have used to get students excited and motivated about learning, such as service learning, hissing cockroaches and videos, among others.
Nuñez is excited about the event because it will give her an opportunity to have a dialogue with faculty about, “How great an impact they can make in a students life when they engage students,” she said.
The faculty presentation will be at 1p.m. on Thursday, March 6 at the TRCC.
The conference will end with a presentation by Art Benjamin, a magician and professor of mathematics at Harvey Mudd College in Southern California.
The mathemagician’s Top 20 Ted Talk which focuses on Technology, Entertainment and Design, has been viewed more than 60 million times.
Benjamin will be speaking at 5:30 Friday, March 7, in the Tomas Riviera Conference Center.
