The No. 20 UTEP rifle team defeated 17th-ranked Nevada, 4528-4526, to kick off its six-day stay for NCAA Qualifying in Fairbanks, Alaska on Feb. 20.
Freshman Rachael Schoenrock led the way for the Miners with an aggregate of 1144 (567-577). That sum ties as her second-best tally at UTEP.
She was buoyed by the efforts of senior Korina Rodriguez (569-568-1137), who was nearly identical in both the smallbore and the air rifle.
Another newcomer Jessica Kinder checked in with her third-highest aggregate at the collegiate level (1135), aided by a career-high tying 586 in the air rifle. Kinder posted a total of 549 in the smallbore.
Freshman Jasmine Juarez followed at 1112 (541-517), which is her third-best aggregate score during her young and promising career for the Orange and Blue.
Senior Areli Oros recorded an aggregate of 1071 (524-547), marking the sixth time this year that she has surpassed 1070 in the aggregate. Oros never surpassed 1062 over her first three years with the Orange and Blue so that year’s success is proof of hard work paying off.
Freshman Monthserrat Serna rounded out the efforts for UTEP with a 525 in the air rifle.
