The Student Engagement and Leadership Center, along with a host of other departments, will kick off the centennial edition of UTEP L.I.V.E. on Wednesday, Jan. 29.
L.I.V.E. is a program focused on leadership, innovation, vision and engagement. Students involved will participate in a month-long series of leadership and development workshops.
L.I.V.E. will navigate the curriculum across six sessions and a conference. Most are free and open to the public, but the Etiquette Dinner on Feb. 18 requires advance registration, the Scholars Dinner is by invitation only and the Leadership Conference Day has a $10 entrance fee.
Event organizers say that this year will feature a focus on interactivity between students.
“It is important to emphasize that we’re trying to show the leadership that exists on this campus,” Corey Bailey, SELC director said. “This is what it means to be Miner Strong, as it relates to leadership development.”
Last year, more than 1,000 students participated in the various programs. This year, organizers hope to double the attendance by associating it with the centennial proceedings.
A revamped event this year is the Queer Leadership Conference. This particular activity is focused on the LGBTQIA population. It is designed to enhance leadership in the gay community on and off campus.
A special dinner will celebrate 21st Century Scholars. Students were invited based on nominations by various deans, department heads and others.
