The University of Texas at El Paso has partnered with Cinemark USA to recognize four El Paso area nonprofit organizations for their outstanding work in the community with a donation, as well as a night out at the movies at El Paso’s newest theater.
At 6:30 p.m. on Thursday, Nov. 14, Cinemark will present $500 checks to YWCA Paso del Norte, Big Brothers Big Sisters of El Paso, the Center Against Family Violence and the Paso del Norte Children’s Development Center during its grand-opening ceremony of the Cinemark Movie Bistro, the new in-theater dining venue located inside Sunland Park Mall. The organizations were selected by UTEP’s Center for Civic Engagement as key nonprofit organizations that have successfully served the El Paso community.
“UTEP has had a great tradition of working with a multitude of partners in the community, and these four organizations represent some of the great commitment our community leaders have made to our El Paso population,” said Azuri Gonzalez, director of the UTEP’s Center for Civic Engagement. “We are very excited to partner up with Cinemark to recognize the wonderful work of our nonprofit sector in our community. Sharing the opportunity to treat their employees, clients and supporters to a movie and free popcorn is a great way to show we care.”
From Nov. 8-9, officials, supporters and volunteers of the four organizations were treated to a free movie screening and popcorn at the new Cinemark location. The UTEP-Cinemark collaboration aims to support the organizations for their hard work that benefits the El Paso region.
“Cinemark was thrilled to partner with UTEP on the opening of the Cinemark Movie Bistro at Sunland Park Mall,” said James Meredith, Cinemark vice president of marketing and communications. “El Paso has long been a very important market for our company and we truly appreciate the opportunity to provide a donation and free entertainment for our new friends and neighbors.”
