As part of International Education Week, a series of events will take place throughout campus on Nov. 18-22.
However, the Study Abroad Office and the Office of International Programs will host an early event; the International Education Expo 2013 which will take place from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., Nov. 13 at the UTEP Union Breezeway. The event is sponsored by the Department of State and the U.S. Department of Education.
Special Study Abroad programs will have information tables and the opportunity to talk to UTEP students who have studied abroad.
There will also be a cereal drive for a colonia in Ciudad Juárez, Mexico, and for south El Paso residents.
For events taking place on the week of Nov. 18-22, a series of events are listed below.
Intercultural Communication Workshop presented by Dr. Stacey Sowards, department of communication chair
11 a.m.-1 p.m., Nov. 18 at Union East, University Suite Room 312
Understand similarity and difference of communication with different cultural backgrounds. This is a hands-on workshop to give students tools to succeed beyond the classroom.
World Story Tellers at UTEP
8 a.m.-6 p.m., Nov. 19 at Union East, Room 203
Students are welcomed to stop by and share their stories, experiences and memories from other places, whether they are an international or a domestic student who has traveled or lived abroad. Their stories will be posted in videos throughout the event on www.facebook/UTEPoip.
World Leader’ Luncheon
11 a.m. to 1 p.m., Nov. 20 at Union East, Ray Room 309
All international student organizations, or their delegates, are invited to come to a luncheon sponsored by the Office of International Programs. They will discuss how they can partner together to celebrate their diversity more strongly at UTEP.
New Friends and Family Hang-out
3 p.m.-5 p.m., Nov. 21 at Union East, WoW Wingery
Students are welcomed to stop by and enjoy meeting new people from all over the world. The WoW Wingery will give 10 percent off any food or beverage students purchase.
Global Helping Hands
3 p.m.-5 p.m., Nov. 22 at Lee and Beulah Moor Children’s Home (1100 E. Cliff Dr.)
Lee and Beulah Moor Children’s Home supports children and families who are experiencing difficulty in their lives. The volunteers at the Office of International Programs will be visiting the home, playing with the kids and sharing where they come from and their journeys that led them there. Both international and domestic students are encouraged to attend and bring pictures or mementos from their childhood. There will be car pools with gas reimbursement scheduled.
