The UTEP student chapter of American String Teacher’s Association (ASTA) presents the fourth-annual All-Region Clinic on Sept. 21 from 9 a.m.- 12:30 p.m. at the Fox Fine Arts Center.
“The clinic serves as a way to help those students prepare for their auditions,” said Christina Hernandez, ASTA student chapter president. “With this clinic, we try to target the students in the areas of El Paso, where it’s much harder to acquire private lessons as they can be very costly for families to provide.
According to Hernandez, ASTA has a low fee of $10 to enter, also providing CDs with the recorded excerpts for the students to practice along with.
“UTEP professors will host the clinics, as well as UTEP music alumni and students,” Hernandez said.
Students interested in participating in the clinic should bring their own stands, pencil and music. There will be a concession stand and a limited number of CDs available for purchase.
“Getting private lessons and tutoring can not only make a big difference in making the cut, but it helps them better prepare for their auditions into the city orchestra,” Hernandez said.
Lessons for middle school begin at 9 a.m. and run until 10:20 a.m., and high school from 10:30 a.m. -12:30 p.m.
Parking will be available in the parking garage located on Sun Bowl Drive.
